We all value the diverse communities that make up London, and the diverse foods and restaurants that serve us all. The British Kebab Awards celebrate an important part of this diversity, and the contribution that London’s Kurdish, Turkish and Arabic communities make to our shared life. At a time when conflict still divides communities in parts of the Middle East, and when Londoners are uniting to help newcomers escaping from Syria and Afghanistan, I welcome the contribution that this event makes to bringing us together and reminding us of how much we all share.
