British Kebab Awards Founder Gave Evidence to Select Committee on the Licensing Act 2003

British Kebab Awards Founder and Director, Mr Ibrahim Dogus, gave evidence to the Select Committee on the Licensing Act 2003 on Tuesday 29 November 2016.

The Select Committee on the Licensing Act 2003 took evidence from those at the heart of the night-time economy and, in a separate session, from legal and environmental health experts.

Witnesses included representatives from the British Kebab Awards, Night Time Industries Association, The Deltic Group, McDonald’s, Wilkes Partnership LLP, Kuit Steinart Levy LLP, Derby City Council and Sustainable Acoustics.

Topics that were discussed included the effectiveness of the Licensing Act, how licensing works alongside planning law, the role of environmental health enforcement and whether licensing should become part of the planning regime. Additionally, witnesses were asked their views on the Night Tube in London and its effects, pre-loading and its impact on the night-time economy and residents, lessons to be learned from the closure and re-opening of Fabric nightclub, responsibilities of takeaways and other non-alcohol based premises and what UK night-time economies can learn from other international cities.

Following the meeting, Director Ibrahim Dogus commented that the British Kebab Awards are the first and only award which celebrates the contribution of the UK’s kebab businesses to the British economy and the achievements of the hard-working people of UK’s almost 50 year old industry. He added that the Awards are now also an important link between the policy-makers and the businesses.

Next British Kebab Awards will take place on 15 February 2017 in Park Plaza Westminster Hotel. Email the awards representatives on [email protected]
