Where to eat the best kebabs in Islington

This article was first published on th Islington Now on 13 March 2018.

Islington is home to some of the best kebab houses in London. We’ve narrowed the list down to 6 of the most delicious cheap-eat kebabs.

Whether it’s after a long night-out or as a little treat after sticking to the healthy lifestyle for so long, we all appreciate a good kebab. On Monday, the country’s best kebabs of 2018 were crowned at the British Kebab Awards. Unfortunately, no Islington kebab houses were nominated this year.

This doesn’t mean that you can’t find delicious, mouth-watering kebab treats in the borough. Out of all the options available, we’ve narrowed down the list to the best 6 kebab spots in Islington, with the majority being great cheap-eat options.

From the top of the borough (location-wise) downwards:

1) Harput Best Kebab, N4 2HX

Located on Seven Sisters Road near Finsbury Park Station, this little place has a Google rating of 4.8/5 and a TripAdvisor rating of 4.5/5. The lamb shish is highly recommended and will only set you back £7, with other options available for around a fiver.

It’s a 13-minute walk from Emirates Stadium, so if you’re going to the game from Finsbury Park, this place might be worth a visit for a pre- or post- match meal.

2) Holloway Best Kebab House, N7 6NJ

Right on Holloway Road, it’s quite hard to miss the huge sign if you’re in the area. Slightly closer to Emirates Stadium (12-minute walk), it’s another good option if you find yourself needing to refuel after a match. Similar to Harput, a large lamb shish will cost you £7, with a small option available for £5.50. A large döner is available for £6, with the small version for just a fiver.

3) Noa, N1 1RU

Located on Upper Street near Highbury and Islington Station, it’s yet another great pre- or post- match meal option. If you’re not very athletically inclined, stop by before or after attending an event at Union Chapel, just across the road. The menu will leave you indecisive with the amount of options available.

A lamb döner will set you back £9.95, and a lamb shish at £11.95. Although not nominated this year, Noa was one of the nominees in the 2015 British Kebab Awards in the “Best Takeaway in London” category and once again in the 2017 awards in the “Best Kebab Restaurant in North and West London” category.

4) Liman, N1 9PZ

This spot on Penton Street was, for a while, the number one restaurant on TripAdvisor. It has now gone down to 11th place, but still maintains a 5 star rating. It’s a higher-end Turkish restaurant, and is priced as such: a lamb shish will set you back £14.70. So if you’re feeling particularly posh but still craving that kebab, this is the place for you.

5) Best Turkish Kebab, EC1V 9AY

Near the Old Street roundabout, this is a good one if you’re spending your Saturday night in the area or if you’ve decided a salad for lunch just wasn’t doing it. A large döner is priced at £5.80 while a large lamb shish is £7. Smaller options are available at £4.80 and £5, respectively.

6) The Best Kebab, EC1V 9BD

Also near the Old Street roundabout, this is another one for those Saturday night shenanigans or after-work treats. With a 4.5/5 TripAdvisor rating, perhaps the name isn’t an exaggeration. It’s slightly more expensive that its neighbour above, and the second most expensive on this list. A large döner is £6.50 and a large lamb shish is £8.50. Smaller options are available at £5.50 and £6, respectively.
