British Kebab Awards: Four Sussex restaurants make it to the final

The following restaurants have made it into the finals: Zeytin (Horsham) / Istanbul Grill (Crawley) / Dem Shish Restaurant & Cocktail Bar (Eastbourne) / Ali Baba (Southwick)

Finalists from across the UK have a chance to win one of 20 prestigious awards at the ceremony which takes place at Westminster Bridge Hotel in London on February 28 2023. More than 1,200 guests are expected to attend.

The awards, run in association with Just Eat and supported by the Kebab Alliance, the sector’s trade body, are in their 11th year and this year it’s attracted record-breaking numbers of entries. They recognise and champion the efforts of local kebab takeaways and restaurants across the UK.

Other sponsors also include major players in the kebab industry such as Cobra Beer, Deliverect, EatPlanted, Toast, and Kraft Heinz.

Ibrahim Dogus, founder of the British Kebab Awards and director of the recently formed Kebab Alliance, said: “Kebab eateries are a key part of the local community and it’s great to see so many entries at the end of a year that has tested every business operating in the hospitality sector. Getting to the shortlist is a real achievement given the competition across the country and all outlets should be rightly proud. We wish all finalists the best of luck.”

Nadhim Zahawi MP, chairman of the Conservative Party, said: “When I sponsored the first Kebab Awards nearly 13 years ago, I never would have thought it would have turned into such a Westminster fixture. Forget the Spectator Summer Party, the Kebab of the Year Awards are THE place to be seen. But these awards are also a recognition of a massive industry that contributes so much to communities up and down the country. I’m looking forward to another wonderful evening!”

Alison Thewliss, SNP MP for Glasgow Central, said: “I’m really looking forward to attending the British Kebab Awards this year. It’s always a brilliant night and a chance to appreciate some of the hidden treasures in the kebab world.”
