The kebab shops in the running to be named the best in Wales in 2023

Wales’ top kebab houses have been unveiled after the finalists of 11th The British Kebab Awards 2023 were announced on Tuesday, December 13. These awards champion the efforts made by local kebab takeaways and restaurants all over the UK. The shortlist has been selected by fans after the voting lines opened for the public to sing the praises of their favourite eateries on the BKA website.

The nominations are split into 20 different categories, ranging from Best Newcomer and Chef of the Year to Best Kebab Van and Best Lebanese restaurant as well as regional awards.

Winners are then decided on by the judging panel which include journalists, business executives, MPs, hospitality experts and more and will be revealed at an awards ceremony in London on Tuesday, February 28.

Not only does Wales have some great eateries listed in the Best Kebab House in Wales but also in the shortlist for the Best Lebanese Restaurant and/or Takeaway.

The Welsh shortlist at the awards – which are held in association with Just Eat and are supported by the Kebab Alliance – in the running for the former hail from all over the country with its 10 nominees in Cardiff, Caerphilly, Pontypridd, Mold and Tonypandy.

Reigning champion Golden BBQ, Jasmin Restaurant, Lezzet Cardiff and Pizza Choice in Cardiff are shortlisted as well as Caerphilly’s Sam’s Grill House and previous 2019 champion Wales Kebab.

Mold eateries Yiannos Fish Bar Mynydd Isa, Mold Kebab Burger & Pizza House are also up for the gong and as well as Pontypridd’s Choices Express and Tonypandy’s Silver Lounge Takeaway.

Alongside this strong regional list, a restaurant on Cardiff’s City Road, Shaam Nights, has been put forward for the gong of Best Lebanese Restaurant, going up against restaurants in London, Brighton and Bath.

This awards show joins a string of others which have celebrated restaurants of all cuisines across Wales in all its delicious glory from the Golden Chopsticks Awards to the AA Hospitality Awards.

As reported by the Sussex Express, Ibrahim Dogus, founder of the British Kebab Awards, said of the upcoming ceremony and its finalists: “Kebab eateries are a key part of the local community and it’s great to see so many entries at the end of a year that has tested every business operating in the hospitality sector.

“Getting to the shortlist is a real achievement given the competition across the country and all outlets should be rightly proud. We wish all finalists the best of luck.”
